How to use Edit PDF Metadata

  1. 1

Click Select PDF files or drag and drop one or more PDFs into the upload area. The tool reads their existing metadata and displays the documents in the Document information panel.

  2. 2

Select a PDF to inspect its properties, including page count, PDF version, security settings, and metadata source. Check Info / XMP differences to identify conflicting values stored in the document's metadata.

  3. 3

Under Edit individually, change the Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, or Language fields. Expand Advanced metadata to edit the creator application, producer, creation and modification dates, and copyright information. You can also open Custom properties to add, modify, or delete additional named metadata fields.

  4. 4

To update several documents together, select Apply to selected files. Check the PDFs you want to modify and enable Apply to selected beside each field that should receive the new value. Unchecked fields retain their existing information. If you want to clear the supported document metadata instead, click Remove all metadata and confirm.

  5. 5

Review your changes before exporting. Use Undo or Redo for individual edits, or Reset to discard pending changes. You can also enable Update modification date when saving under Advanced metadata. Click Download PDF for a single file or Download PDF / ZIP when working with multiple documents. Updated PDFs are saved separately, with multiple results packaged into a ZIP archive.

About Edit PDF Metadata

The filename isn't the only information that identifies a PDF. Open its document properties and you may discover an outdated author, an incorrect title, missing keywords, or the name of the software that originally created it. These details are stored as PDF metadata—information about the document rather than content displayed on its pages. Edit PDF Metadata provides a way to inspect and correct that information without rewriting the visible document.

The editor supports both familiar properties and less commonly examined fields. Titles, authors, subjects, keywords, and language tags are readily accessible, while advanced controls cover document timestamps, creator and producer details, copyright notices, and copyright status. You can also maintain custom name-value properties when a document requires additional descriptive information, such as an internal project identifier or departmental reference.

One particularly useful capability is its inspection of Info and XMP metadata. PDFs created or modified by different applications can contain conflicting metadata records. The editor identifies these discrepancies and updates supported properties across both structures, helping keep the document's descriptive information consistent.

For organizations managing collections of PDFs, batch editing avoids unnecessary repetition. Apply a shared author name, update copyright information, or clear selected properties across multiple documents while leaving unrelated fields untouched. Individual editing remains available when documents require different details. Changes can be reviewed, reversed, or reset before the updated files are generated.

The tool also supports removing standard metadata, but this should be understood as a targeted cleanup rather than a complete privacy or security audit. It does not erase information embedded elsewhere in the PDF. All inspection and modification operations run locally in your browser, with no document uploads to a processing server. The original files remain available separately from the downloaded copies.
