ZIP & Unzip Files
Package files and folders into common open archives, or inspect and selectively extract existing archives without a server upload.
Add files to your archive
Choose multiple files, add a folder, or drop files here.
Archive creation, inspection, extraction, and download preparation happen locally in your browser. RAR and 7Z are extraction-only, and password-protected archives are not supported.
How to use ZIP & Unzip Files
- 1
Choose Create Archive to add files, a folder or dropped items. Select ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ, TGZ or GZ, then choose compression where applicable and enter the Output filename.
- 2
Click Create Archive, compare original and archive sizes, and download the finalized result. Plain GZ accepts one file because it is not a multi-entry container.
- 3
For an existing ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, TAR.GZ, TGZ or GZ, open Extract Archive, search its paths and select individual files, folders or all entries.
- 4
Click Extract Selected. Download entries separately or choose Download All to save their hierarchy to a selected folder where supported, with individual-download fallback elsewhere.
Frequently asked questions
About ZIP & Unzip Files
ZIP & Unzip Files places archive creation and extraction in separate workflows so the available formats and controls remain unambiguous. Creation preserves available relative paths and original file bytes while producing conventional ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ, TGZ or GZ output. Fast, Balanced and Maximum compression are offered only where the format can use them.
Extraction relies on a local WebAssembly archive reader for ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR and gzip-based packages. Before results are offered, the package is inspected for malformed content, encryption and path hazards such as absolute names, traversal segments or suspicious duplicates. Search and tree selection make it possible to extract only the entries that matter.
Individual files can always be downloaded directly. Download All uses the File System Access API where available to preserve safe relative directories inside a chosen folder; browsers without that API receive separate file downloads instead. It does not create a second ZIP, and neither the archive nor its extracted contents are sent to a processing server.
