Compare Files
Prove whether two files contain the same bytes and, for valid UTF-8 text, investigate where their readable lines diverge.

Comparison
Exact comparison always checks the original bytes.
Both files are read and compared locally in your browser. They are never uploaded or modified.
How to use Compare Files
- 1
Choose or drop any file into File A and File B. Each side keeps an independent snapshot for the comparison.
- 2
Leave Exact comparison selected for arbitrary binary or text files, or choose Text diff after both sources are confirmed as valid UTF-8 text.
- 3
In Text diff, optionally enable Ignore whitespace or Ignore case. These choices affect readable comparison only, never the exact byte result.
- 4
Start the comparison and review identity, sizes, first changed byte, differing-byte total and both SHA-256 values, followed by the line diff when available.

About Compare Files
Compare Files answers two different questions without confusing them. Exact mode establishes whether the selected files contain precisely the same bytes, regardless of names or formats. When the bytes differ, it reports file sizes, the first changed offset and the complete count of differing positions, alongside independent SHA-256 values.
Readable source files benefit from another perspective. After both inputs pass conservative UTF-8 checks, Text diff classifies lines as added, removed, changed or unchanged and retains useful line references. Whitespace and letter-case options allow semantic review, while the original binary verdict remains visible and unaffected.
Both files are processed in sequential chunks for exact comparison and hashing rather than copied into one large buffer. Detailed text rendering has protective bounds; if it cannot be displayed responsibly, the complete byte result still stands. All analysis happens in local browser memory and neither source is rewritten.
