Does compression resize my images?

No. The compressor keeps the original pixel dimensions and source format. It changes encoding or palette choices only.

Can the tool always reach an exact target size?

No. It searches for the closest practical result without resizing or changing format. Some targets are impossible at those constraints, and the result explains when the target could not be reached.

How is PNG compression different?

PNG has no ordinary lossy quality setting. The tool first tries lossless output and, in Target Size mode, may reduce the color palette while preserving transparency.

Why might the downloaded file be identical to the original?

If the source is already below the target or recompression would make it larger, the tool keeps the original bytes instead of producing a worse result.
