About Barcode Check Digit Calculator & Validator

A check digit is a compact error-detection mechanism, not a random suffix. Retail GTINs, UPC and EAN numbers, shipping-container identifiers and ISBN-13 values derive their final digit from every preceding position. This calculator applies the correct supported rule without converting the identifier into a number that could lose its leading zeros.

Calculate mode is intended for label preparation or data entry when only the body is known. Validate mode independently recomputes an existing final digit, identifies a mismatch and shows the corrected full identifier instead of returning a bare pass-or-fail result.

The supported set covers GTIN-8, GTIN-12, GTIN-13, GTIN-14, ISBN-13 and SSCC-18. It deliberately performs no registry lookup: the result establishes mathematical consistency, while ownership, authenticity and official allocation remain outside its scope.
